AVALON STITCHERS
During the late summer, members of the group are going to be busily preparing for their bi-annual exhibition which will take place from Saturday 14 October to Saturday 21 October at the museum on Cathedral Green in Wells (10 - 4; closed Sunday and Monday). Amongst the exhibits will be three group projects - almost every member of the group will have contributed at least one small embroidery on a given theme to at least one of these. Additionally, projects started during one of the group’s regular workshop sessions will be on display. The latest of these was led by Wendy Hermalin who taught us a range of techniques as we made textile collaged, machine and hand-stitched landscapes and seascapes. They fit perfectly within the scope of the exhibition’s topic, which is “Out and About”.
The September meeting will see us working with the national renowned textile artist Anne Kelly on themes from her latest book “Textile Travels”. In October a more local tutor, Angela Knapp, who recently exhibited her work at ACE Arts in Somerton, will help us to create machine embroidered birds. There is no obligation to take part in workshop sessions as there are usually a dozen or so of our members who just come along to meetings to progress their own projects, browse our extensive library of stitch and textile related books and share ideas with like-minded people in a very relaxed atmosphere. So if you are interested in what we do please come along to the exhibition, look at our website (www.avalonstitchers.org) or drop in to one of our sessions which are normally held at Ashcott Village Hall on the fourth Saturday of the month.
